THE SCENT
  • TUBEROSE
  • JASMINE
  • FRANKINCENSE
  • PATCHOULI
  • WILD FIG
  • VIOLET LEAF
  • PETRICHOR
  • SALT

Native to Mexico and cultivated by the Aztecs before spreading through Europe in the 16th century. So intoxicating that young women were once warned against walking through tuberose fields at night. Creamy, bold and near-carnal. The scent of moonlit petals and surrender.

Cultivated for centuries across Egypt, India and the Middle East for perfumery, ceremony and medicine. Traditionally harvested at night when the flowers release their strongest scent. Sweet, heady and almost hypnotic. The scent of night air and heat on skin.

A resin harvested from Boswellia trees native to the Arabian Peninsula and the Horn of Africa, once traded as one of the ancient world’s most valuable materials. Bright, citrusy and sacred. The scent of ancient altars, desert winds and whispered prayers.

A fragrant herb native to Southeast Asia that became associated with luxury silk and cashmere trade routes in the 19th century, when merchants packed fabrics with patchouli leaves during travel. Earthy, deep and grounding. The scent of damp soil, worn leather and skin after rain.

Cultivated across the Mediterranean and Middle East for thousands of years, figs were prized in Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome as symbols of fertility, pleasure and abundance. Lush, creamy and sun-drenched. The scent of ripened fruit, warm skin and late summer afternoons.

Derived from the leaves of the violet plant, which became highly fashionable in European perfumery during the 19th century. Cool, metallic and vegetal. The scent of torn leaves, green shade and rain on stone.

A term coined by Australian scientists in the 1960s to describe the earthy scent released when rain falls on dry soil. Wet, mineral and rain-soaked. The scent of cracked earth revived by the first storm.

Harvested for thousands of years across coastal civilisations, salt was once so valuable that Roman soldiers were partly paid in it, giving rise to the word salary. Crystalline and addictive. The scent of skin after sea spray and swimming.

THE STORY

Before it became shorthand for seduction and ruin, Alexandria was the most ambitious city on earth. A place built not gradually, but imagined into existence almost overnight by a 24-year-old Alexander the Great in 331 BC, during his conquest of Egypt. Ancient historians later claimed he chose the site after dreaming of Homeric verses describing the island of Pharos — a suitably theatrical origin for a city that would spend centuries performing power to the world.

39-BC
FAQS
IS THIS GOOD FOR DRY SKIN

Yes. 39BC was designed as an oil-based cleanser that cleanses the skin without leaving it feeling stripped or tight afterwards.

Unlike traditional shower gels, which can leave dry skin feeling squeaky or dehydrated, our oil-to-milk formulas combine cleansing agents with nourishing plant oils to help support softness and comfort after bathing.

Skin is left cleansed, hydrated, and lightly scented.

CAN I USE THIS IN THE BATH?

Yes. 39BC can be used in both the bath and shower.

In the shower, apply directly onto damp skin and massage as the oil transforms into a soft milk.

In the bath, smooth onto skin before soaking or apply at the end of your bath ritual as a final cleansing layer.

IS THIS A SHOWER GEL?

No. 39BC is an oil body cleanser.

Traditional shower gels are usually water-based and designed to create a large foam. 39BC is oil-based, creating a softer, more sensorial cleansing experience that leaves skin nourished rather than stripped.

The texture begins as a rich oil and transforms into a cleansing milk when combined with water.

DOES IT FOAM?

39BC creates a soft, light lather rather than a large foam.

We intentionally formulated the texture to feel closer to a cleansing oil than a traditional foaming body wash. The experience is creamy, milky, and skin-softening.

WHAT DOES OIL-TO-MILK MEAN?

Oil-to-milk describes the transformation that happens when water touches the formula.

The cleanser begins as a silky oil, then emulsifies into a soft milk as you massage it onto damp skin. This allows the formula to cleanse effectively while maintaining a nourished, conditioned skin feel.

It is designed to leave skin comfortable, supple, and lightly fragranced after rinsing.

WILL THIS LEAVE RESIDUE?

No. The formula rinses cleanly from the skin.

Because the cleanser is oil-based, skin may feel softer and more conditioned after use compared to a traditional shower gel, but it should not feel greasy or coated.

IS IT SUITABLE FOR SENSITIVE SKIN?

39BC is formulated to be gentle and non-stripping, however all skin is individual.

Our formulas contain fine fragrance compositions alongside plant oils, so we recommend patch testing first if you are highly sensitive, reactive, or fragrance-intolerant. Our FIG MILK oil is currently best for a lighter experience.

WHAT DOES IT SMELL LIKE?

Each 39BC cleanser has its own fragrance profile inspired by bathing rituals, ancient ingredients, and emotional states.

Some scents are softer and skin-close, while others are deeper, warmer, or more floral. The fragrances are designed to unfold through steam and warm water, creating an immersive bathing experience rather than a sharp, overpowering scent.

HOW LONG DOES THE SCENT LAST?

The scent is designed to linger softly on the skin after bathing.

Longevity will vary depending on the fragrance, your skin type, and whether you layer with other scented products, but most people experience a subtle skin scent that remains for several hours after use.

CAN I LAYER IT WITH PERFUME?

Yes. 39BC was designed with fragrance layering in mind.

The cleansers create a scented base layer on the skin that can be worn alone or paired with perfume. Many customers use them as part of a longer fragrance ritual, combining body care, oils, and scent together.

CAN I USE THIS EVERY DAY?

Yes. 39BC was designed for daily use.

The formulas are intentionally gentle and non-stripping, making them suitable for everyday bathing rituals in both the shower and bath.

IS THIS SUITABLE FOR SHAVING?

Yes. The milky texture creates slip across the skin, making it suitable for shaving.

Many customers use 39BC as part of a full-body shower ritual including cleansing, shaving, and fragrance layering.
